MUMBAI: On Wednesday, the BJP lashed out at the Shiv Sena-led MVA dispensation for the demolition of “illegal alterations” in the actress’s bungalow. Kangana Ranaut by the Mumbai civic body, calling the development a “politics of vendetta” and a kind of “government sponsored terror” in the state.
Opposition leader in the Maharashtra assembly Devendra Fadnavis He said that the state of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has not seen such a “timid and undemocratic” government so far.
He accused the state government of stifling the voices of those who have a different opinion.
Shiv Sena and the actress have been embroiled in a bitter war of words since the latter compared Mumbai to Pakistani-occupied Kashmir (PoK), and said she feared the Mumbai Police more than the movie mafia after the actor’s death Sushant Singh Rajput.
Earlier in the day, a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation The BMC team demolished “illegal alterations” at the actress’s Pali Hill bungalow in Bandra with a bulldozer and excavators.
“In the way that a comment (Pakistan occupied Kashmir) that insults Maharashtra or the Mumbai police cannot be defended, neither can government action (demolition) be defended. Maharashtra is being defamed due to such actions in the country. “Fadnavis said in a video message.
He said the bulldozed structure remained in place for quite some time, but no action was taken earlier.
“The action was taken only after the actress made the comments,” the former prime minister said.
Why the BMC controlled by the Seine is not taking action against other illegal structures in the city, he questioned.
“Such action taken out of a feeling of revenge does not suit Maharashtra and its rulers. In a way, there is government-sponsored terror in Maharashtra,” Fadnavis charged.
Earlier, BJP MLA Ashish Shelar accused the Uddhav Thackeray-led government of playing “vendetta politics”.
Bandra West MLA told reporters that the action at Ranaut’s bungalow was taken out of revenge.
“The BMC showed promptness in demolishing parts of the actress’s bungalow. However, no such action is being taken against the illegal constructions located a few meters from Prime Minister Thackeray’s private residence ‘Matoshree’ in Bandra,” said.
“It is unfortunate that action is being taken only selectively. This is a selfish government,” he said.
Meanwhile, without taking Ranaut’s name, the head of the CPN, Sharad Pawar, said that “undue importance” was given to those who made such statements.
“We will have to see what influence such statements have on people in general. In my opinion, people do not take (such statements) seriously,” the veteran leader told reporters.
Meanwhile, at the Himachal Pradesh assembly, Prime Minister Jai Ram Thakur condemned the demolition and said that Ranaut “is a daughter” of the state and that he should get a “proper atmosphere” to work in his field.
