Delivery man flees with iPhone 12 Pro Max units, gets rich on Rs 18 lakh heist

If there is something that a large part of people like, it is the iPhone. Apple’s most sought-after product, the iPhone isn’t bought just for fun with your friends, it’s also valuable due to the high price tag associated with the iPhone. That is why it should come as no surprise when people go to great lengths to get the iPhone. Case in point: A Chinese man who stole 14 units of iPhone 12 Pro Max, worth Rs 18 lakh, was supposed to deliver and sell some of them in order to live an elegant life, at least for a short time. The man was later captured, ending his fun journey.

A Chinese delivery man named Tang was assigned the job of delivering 14 iPhone 12 Pro Max units from the purchasing company Meituan-Dianping to an Apple authorized reseller in Guiyang, Guizhou province. The delivery order was placed on November 14, according to a report by MyDrivers, a Chinese publication. Tang, upon receiving the 14 units of the iPhone 12 Pro Max, apparently canceled these orders and paid CNY 10 for not doing his job. But the biggest shock was when it didn’t return these iPhone 12 Pro Max units to the store.

Instead, Tang got away with these units, which had a total value of around CNY 180,000, which translates to roughly 18 lakh rupees. He could not be traced after this heist, in relation to the store manager and delivery recipients who could contact the person. But the man was soon caught, thanks to his reckless shopping spree that followed after selling some of the iPhone 12 Pro Max units for instant cash.

According to the report, Tang had opened a box to use the iPhone 12 Pro Max, one that he gave to his friend to pay the debt he owed, another that he mortgaged at a pawn shop for 9,500 CNY, and the fourth was sold to a mobile phone dealer for a price less than CNY 7,000. The original price of each iPhone 12 Pro Max was reported to be 1,000 CNY. The money Tang earned after trading in the two iPhone units was spent on purchases. Like a man who has won a lottery, Tang rented a BMW car for a fun ride at CNY 600 a day. Even new clothes bought was expensive.

But his enthusiasm was short-lived. The local police recovered these four units from the places where they were. The politician seized the rest of the iPhone 12 Pro Max units, which were ten in number, and caught Tang. The Apple Store has now banned the person from its network and has even issued a blacklist for other people in the same industry. Of course, Tang will likely face legal prosecution under the laws of the land.

This is one of several cases that have occurred so far with Apple iPhones. People have done unthinkable things to get their hands on new iPhones, either because they wanted to show them off or to get rich in an instant.

Previously, a Chinese man was arrested when he tried to smuggle several iPhone X units from Hong Kong for the difference in price of the iPhone in the two countries. A similar case happened in Spain when five Amazon employees attempted a robbery to steal iPhones from inventory, but were later caught when an internal operation took place. The total value of these iPhones was around $ 500,000 (roughly Rs 3.71 crore).
