Delhi’s Covid-19 positivity rate expected to be less than 5%: Minister of Health


Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said on Wednesday that the government anticipates the prospects for the Covid-19 positivity rate to drop to 5% in the coming days.

“The positivity rate has dropped below 7%. It is expected to drop 5% in the next few days. Currently, there are more than 1600 ICU beds available in Delhi hospitals, ”said Jain. Delhi’s positivity rate, which had crossed 15% on November 15, is hovering around the 6-8% mark in recent weeks.

The Health Minister had previously stated that the positivity rate in the national capital has fallen by a margin of almost 55 percent since the beginning of November and should decline further in the next two weeks.

Delhi battled a severe spike in Covid-19 cases and deaths last month. The recent spike in virus cases was seen during the holiday season and the increased level of contamination, experts said.

To fight the growing cases, authorities stepped up the Covid-19 testing strategy and increased testing to more than 60,000 per day. The government has also slashed the prices of private laboratory RT-PCR tests to help people who want to be tested in private laboratories.

Taking an aggressive approach to contact tracing and testing, the Delhi government has carried out RT-PCR and Rapid Antigen Testing to detect novel coronaviruses in the national capital. Both tests are done free of charge at hospitals and government testing centers.

Noting the need to improve medical infrastructure, the National Center for Disease Control in a recently drafted report warned that the national capital should be prepared for around 15,000 new cases of Covid-19 per day, taking into account the upcoming season of winter related to respiratory diseases. problems, large influx of patients from abroad and festive gatherings.
