New Delhi:

Ram Lal Anand College of the University of Delhi has terminated the service of Assistant Professor GN Saibaba, who is currently serving a life sentence in Nagpur Central Prison for alleged Maoist ties.

According to a memorandum received by Saibaba’s wife, Vasantha, on Thursday, his services have been terminated with immediate effect as of the afternoon of March 31.

“The services of GN Saibaba, Assistant Professor, Ram Lal Anand College end with immediate effect as of the afternoon of March 31, 2021. Three months of salary have been paid into his savings account,” says the signed memorandum. by the director of Rakesh University. Kumar Gupta.

Mr. Gupta could not be reached for comment even after several attempts.

GN Saibaba, an assistant professor of English, was suspended after his arrest by the Maharashtra police in 2014. His wife and daughters have received half their salary since the arrest.

Saibaba’s wife, who called the latest event a “witch hunt”, claimed it was a “violation of employee rights” and would take the matter to court.

“Our appeal against his conviction is still pending in the Bombay High Court, how can they make that decision? HRH Geelani (who was convicted in the case of attack on Parliament) is the best example. He was acquitted of all charges, never It was So why is Saibaba’s service canceled? This is a violation of employee rights, “he argued.

Ms. Vasantha added that they have been receiving half their salary since the suspension. But now, with the layoff, the family, which includes her and her college-going daughter, will face financial difficulties, she said.

“We have no choice but to approach our attorneys, we will definitely challenge this decision in court,” he said.

Depleted uranium professor Nandita Narayan of the GN Saibaba Defense and Liberation Committee claimed that taking “precipitating measures such as dismissal” was highly reprehensible while the legal process was ongoing.

“The RLA College Staff Association and DUTA had warned authorities not to take such action. Furthermore, the University itself had written to the Faculty in 2019, citing a legal opinion, which shows that the notice of cause should be reissued.

“To our total surprise, the University short-circuited its own process and canceled its services without even waiting for its response,” he said.
