NOIDA: Gautam Buddh Nagar police have stepped up surveillance and stepped up controls at its borders with Delhi following the arrest of two suspected terrorists in the national capital, authorities said Wednesday.
The Delhi Police Special Cell had detained two suspects on Monday night Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) operating close Sarai Kale Khan.
Additional Deputy Police Commissioner Ranvijay Singh said Noida shares its borders with Delhi and that following these events, security is tightened and controls are tightened.
“We obtain information through the press, as well as at the departmental level, about such events in nearby places and consequently we intensify security,” Singh said.
“Usually we have security posts at the border points and we intensify them when we receive alerts like these (terrorists arrest in Delhi),” he said.
The officer said heightened alertness and security are being used as preventive measures because people linked to the events in Delhi may try to seek refuge in Noida.
“After the latest alert from Delhi, we have intensified our border controls and are in alert mode. The border points have become excessively sensitized for controls ”, he added.
The suspected terrorists detained in Delhi have been identified as Latif Mir, 22, and Mohammad Ashraf Khatana, both Jammu and Kashmir natives, according to officials.
Two semiautomatic pistols were recovered along with some ammunition from his possession when trapped nearby Millennium Park in Sarai Kale Khan on Monday night, officials said.
