New Delhi:
A 16-year-old rape survivor gave birth to a baby on the terrace of her north Delhi home, police said Wednesday.
Police received a call from PCR on October 31. The caller informed them about a newborn baby.
Police said they recovered the baby wrapped in cloth from North Delhi, but no further information about the baby was received. Later, the police reviewed CCTV footage of the area.
“We received information on Saturday night about the baby. The police arrived at the scene and took the baby to the hospital. When we reviewed the CCTV images of the area, the baby was found with a girl,” said a senior police officer .
Police tracked down the girl who said she was raped by a 60-year-old man about eight or nine months ago and did not inform her mother because she was scared, she said.
He covered the baby with a cloth and put him near a store far from his home and left the place, the officer said.
A case was registered under various rape sections and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) and the accused man, who is a merchant, has been arrested, police said.
The girl lives with her mother who works as a domestic worker. The defendant allegedly raped her eight or nine months ago, they said.
