New Delhi:
Actress Kangana Ranaut has been asked to apologize for her “derogatory” tweet about an elderly woman who said she was “available for 100 rupees”, suggesting that she may be hired to attend the protests. A day after sending a legal notice to the actor, the head of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), Manjinder Singh Sirsa, said that Ranaut should give an “unconditional apology” within a week. The actor deleted the tweet about the massive protest by farmers in and around Delhi against the center’s new agricultural laws.
“We have sent legal notice to @KanganaTeam for her derogatory tweet calling an elderly farmer’s mother as a woman available for 100 rupees. Her tweets portray the farmers’ protest as anti-national. We demand an unconditional apology from her for her insensitive comments on farmers’ protest, “Sirsa tweeted today.

The DSGMC is a powerful representative of the Sikhs in the national capital; It is a statutory body created under the Sikh Gurdwara Act of 1971, which says it must take care of the day-to-day affairs of the community.
Bilkis Bano, the octogenarian who became the face of protesting against the anti-citizenship law for months in the Delhi town of Shaheen Bagh, was prevented on Tuesday by Delhi police from joining the protest of the farmers. However, Ms. Kangana tweeted a photo of another elderly woman and claimed that she was Ms. Bano, suggesting that she could be “hired” to attend the protests.
A lawyer from Punjab, Harkam Singh, also sent a legal notice to Ms. Ranaut. “It is to inform you that said lady is not a fake lady. Her name is Mahinder Kaur and she belongs to Bathinda. She is the wife of farmer Labh Singh Nambardar …” Singh said in the notice.
The DSGMC drew Ms Ranaut’s attention to how she used social media to gain the support of her fans, claiming that her fundamental rights were violated, when a part of her office in Mumbai was demolished. She said that “the right to protest peacefully is part of the rights of farmers under the Constitution and she cannot claim the right to demean and insult them.”
At least 40 farmer leaders are gathering on the Delhi-Haryana border to discuss their next action after Thursday’s meeting with the government failed to end the stalemate on new farm laws.
The representatives of the farmers maintained their demand for the repeal of the laws. Tomorrow the third round of meeting with the center will be held.
