NEW DELHI: All schools in delhi will continue to be closed until further orders in view of the Covid-19 situation, Senior Deputy Minister Manish Sisodia announced Wednesday.
Parents are also not in favor of reopening schools, Sisodia said at an online press conference.
The Delhi government had previously announced that schools will be closed until October 31.
“We continue to get feedback from parents that they are really concerned about whether it is safe to reopen schools. It is not. Wherever schools have reopened, Covid-19 cases among children have increased. Therefore, we have decided that from now on the schools in the national capital will not reopen. They will remain closed until there are new orders, “said Sisodia.
Universities and schools across the country have been closed since March 16, when the Center announced the closure of classrooms across the country as part of measures to contain the spread of the new coronavirus.
A nationwide lockdown was imposed on March 25.
Although various restrictions have been eased in different phases of “unblocking”, educational institutions remain closed. Under the ‘Unlock 5’ guidelines, states can take a call to reopen schools in phases. Several states have also begun the process of reopening schools.
Previously, schools were allowed to call students in classes 9 to 12 to school on a voluntary basis beginning September 21. However, the Delhi government decided not to.
