Coronavirus cases in Delhi have been declining since hitting an all-time high of 8,593 cases on November 10, Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said Tuesday at a meeting called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Prime Minister Modi chaired a virtual meeting with the top ministers of the eight states most affected by Covid: Maharashtra, Kerala, West Bengal, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Haryana, to review the situation of the coronavirus, discuss the cause of the augmentation and planned countermeasures. to stop the growth of the virus.
“Delhi saw a peak of 8,600 cases on November 10 during Wave 3. Since then, the cases and the positivity rate have steadily declined. We expect this trend to continue,” Kejriwal said a day after Delhi recorded 121 deaths with 4,454 new infections. as the one-day tests were reduced to approximately 37,000 samples in the last 24 hours.
The prime minister, however, learned of the “severity” of the third wave, which has seen more deaths and hospitalizations since the increase began five weeks ago.
“The high severity of the third wave is due to many factors. Pollution is a major factor,” Kejriwal said seeking the prime minister’s intervention to eliminate the annual peak of pollution caused by stubble burning or ‘paralí’ in neighboring states.
Until the third wave lasts, Kejriwal said an additional 1,000 ICU beds should be reserved for coronavirus patients in central government hospitals.
The central government has already assured that it will prepare 750 ICU beds in the DRDO Hospital, which is attended by doctors from the armed forces.
Amid the third wave of coronavirus infections, Delhi has added more than a lakh of cases since November 1. Although the positivity rate has dropped from the previous 14 percent to about 11 percent, it is still at least three times higher than the national one. average of 3.5 percent.
Delhi has a total of 5.3 lakh of coronavirus cases with 8,512 deaths.
