Delhi Riots: What Former Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar Says About Umar Khalid and Kapil Mishra

Former Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar supported the Delhi Police investigation into the violence that took place in northeast Delhi in February this year. On Wednesday, Delhi Police named 15 people to the charge sheet, accusing them of orchestrating the riots that killed at least 53 people and injured hundreds.

On Tuesday, Delhi Police Commissioner SN Shrivastava wrote to veteran police officer Julio Ribeiro, explaining that the investigation was being carried out without any discrimination based on caste or religion, and was supported by documentary and scientific evidence.

Former Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar believes the Delhi Police are right and this is what they say.

* Many of the points were already explained by the police commissioner in his letter to Julio Ribeiro, Neeraj Kumar said. “However, I am in a better position than many of my colleagues who are expressing their distress.

* “Based on the limited contributions that I have, I know that the Delhi Police have presented some technical evidence. It is not based on some heresy, ”said the former police chief.

* Neeraj Kumar said the planning was done on a grand scale. People were gathering at various locations in northeast Delhi, Kumar said. “There is a lot of evidence not only against Umar Khalid, but also against members who are already arrested,” said Neeraj Kumar.

* “Some people have come to the Delhi High Court urging the Delhi police to take action against Kapil Mishra. The problem is subjudicial. I don’t want to defend Kapil Mishra. But I am giving perspective. What she said did not incite a disturbance, ”Kumar said.

* Umar Khalid has not been indicted just because of his Amravati speech, where he asked people to come out to protest during US President Donald Trump’s visit to India. The evidence against him is much more. His speech forms only a small part of the body of evidence that the Delhi police have, Neeraj Kumar said.
