“The increase in the number of deaths is not unexpected. There is always a lag between the increase in the number of cases and the deaths. It is the time between diagnosis, hospitalization and death of people, ”said Dr. Rajinder K Dhamija, professor of medicine and head of the department of neurology at Lady Hardinge Medical College.

He further added: “Also, when the denominator – the number of cases – is huge, the number of deaths will also be higher. But the fatality rate is still 1.57%. “

However, the fatality rate (CFR), the proportion of people who died among those who tested positive for the infection, remained at 1.56%.

Experts suspect that the number of cases will increase after Diwali.

“There was a slight drop in the numbers, but it is too early to tell if the infections have peaked. In fact, I don’t think it’s even a real decline. With Diwali just around the corner, fewer people are likely to get tested, and many labs won’t work tomorrow either. We will see an increase on Monday again, ”said Dr. Vikas Maurya, director of the department of pulmonology and sleep disorders at Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh.

Delhi hospitals are running out of intensive care unit (ICU) beds as the city experiences its third increase in the number of Covid-19 cases.

Almost 88% of all ICU beds earmarked for Covid-19 treatment were still occupied as of Saturday night, according to the government’s Delhi Corona app.

The number of beds is likely to rise from the current 3,484 ICU beds, with and without ventilators, after the high court allowed the Delhi government to order the reservation of 80% of ICU beds in 33 major private hospitals. The Delhi government wrote to the Center to request an additional 300 ICU beds for its hospitals.
