Delhi coronavirus deaths: at least 5 people have died every hour on average in the last 24 hours

New Delhi:

At least five people died due to COVID-19 every hour on average in Delhi in the last 24 hours, accounting for the largest share of such deaths across the country, which recorded an average of 21 deaths in this period.

The analysis was based on data from the Union Ministry of Health that gave the total number of deaths registered in the country and all states and UT from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

While a total of 511 COVID-19 deaths were recorded across the country in the past 24 hours, Delhi accounted for the bulk of such deaths with 121 deaths, data updated at 8 a.m. showed.

According to the latest bulletin issued by the Delhi health department, the national capital recorded 6,746 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday and a positivity rate of 12.29 percent, while 121 more deaths brought the death toll to 8,391. .

These new cases emerged from 54,893 tests performed on Saturday, including 23,433 RT-PCR tests, according to the bulletin.

This was the fifth time in the past 11 days that the daily death toll crossed the 100 mark.

Authorities reported 111 deaths on Saturday, 118 on Friday, 131 on November 18, the highest number to date, and 104 deaths on November 12.

The active case count on Sunday stood at 40,212 compared to 39,741 on Saturday in Delhi, the bulletin said, adding that the total number of cases has risen to 5,29,863 of which 4,81,260 have recovered.

India’s COVID-19 case burden topped 91,39,865 with 44,059 coronavirus infections reported in one day, while recoveries jumped to 85,62,641, according to data from the Union Health Ministry on Monday.
