Pollution levels in the national capital continued to rise on Tuesday and its air quality index (AQI) reading reached 350 at 7 am, which is considered “very poor” in the area.
Data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) shows that the overall reading of Delhi’s AQI on Monday was 332, in the “very poor” category. This was a few points higher than Sunday’s AQI reading of 321, also in the “very poor” range.
Data from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) show that on Monday, the minimum temperature recorded at the Safdarjung Observatory, which is considered the city’s official record, was 5.5 degrees Celsius. This was three degrees below the average for the season.

The maximum temperature was 22.4 degrees Celsius.
On Sunday, the minimum temperature recorded at the Safdarjung Observatory was 3.4 degrees Celsius, five levels below normal for the season. This was the lowest recording of the season.
The scientists said the temperature rise was due to the passage of a western disturbance in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
“This marginal increase in temperature was an impact of the western disturbance in the hills. However, by Tuesday, the temperature will start to drop again and we expect it to drop to around 3 degrees Celsius in the next few days, ”said Kuldeep Srivastava, head of IMD’s regional weather forecast center.
