NEW DELHI – If you don’t already have a High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) and color-coded fuel label affixed to your car, prepare to shell out Rs 5,500.
Starting Tuesday, the transportation department’s compliance wing will begin penalizing cars without a high security registration plate (HSRP) and a color-coded fuel label. However, two-wheelers and cars registered in other states will be salvaged for now.
According to the amended MV Law, a vehicle without HSRP can be fined 10,000 rupees, which has been increased to 5,500 rupees by the transportation department. A similar fine applies to Delhi-registered cars that do not have color-coded fuel labels.
A senior transportation department official said that starting Tuesday, nine teams from the law enforcement wing will issue challans at random locations. “The emphasis would be on colored stickers to identify vehicles, whether they are gasoline or diesel, etc. So far enough time has been given to car owners to affix color-coded fuel stickers and now 5,500 rupee chalans will be issued, “he said.” These stickers are placed on the windshield so they can be identified from afar. ” added.
“We are starting the campaign with nine teams, but very soon, the number of law enforcement teams will increase to 50 and they will start operating in many more places,” he said. “In early 2018, the Honorable Supreme Court ordered colored stickers to be placed on vehicles in Delhi. From October 2, 2018, all new vehicles come with new colored stickers. But existing vehicle owners are not yet coming forward to have these stickers affixed, ”he said.
“We started the journey from Tuesday in limited and selective areas of Delhi as the aim is to sensitize vehicle owners to get color coded stickers as soon as possible,” he said. Those who have already reserved a color-coded sticker online can show the receipt to law enforcement officials and would not have to pay the fine.
According to transportation department officials, the number of vehicles without HSRP, including cars and two-wheelers, is at least 40 lakh. While the cars are only required to have fuel decals, the amount for such cars is around only 3.5 lakh. A light blue sticker will be used for gasoline and CNG vehicles and orange for diesel vehicles. As of October 2, 2018, fuel and HSRP stickers are affixed to vehicles in Delhi at the time of registration.
Slots for mounting HSRP and fuel stickers can be reserved via www.siam.in, which will redirect the vehicle owner to the respective HSRP manufacturer’s website. After booking, vehicle owners will receive a real-time update of each stage of the processing via SMS and will be notified at least two days before the delivery date.
In October, the state’s Transportation Minister Kailash Gahlot had ordered a halt to the online booking after complaints were received from vehicle owners about delays in affixing fuel labels and HSRP. The facility was restarted as of November 1, along with the home delivery facility in some parts of Delhi.
