The Delhi High Court issued a notice to I&B ministry, Prasar Bharati, the Association of News Broadcasters (NBA) and the Press Council of India (PCI) on Thursday after actor Rakul Preet Singh moved to court. claiming a ‘media trial’ over reports that she was named by fellow actor Rhea Chakraborty as one of Bollywood’s drug users.
The court action came after the actor entered a guilty plea in which he submitted media reports that violated the I&B ministry guidelines.
Rhea Chakraborty is currently under investigation by several central agencies, including the CBI, ED, and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for her alleged role in the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June.
Following Rhea’s arrest by the NCB, reports emerged that during questioning, she had named actors Rakul Preet Singh, Sara Ali Khan, and fashion designer Simone Khambatta, among others, as drug users. The reports further stated that the drug agency had prepared a list of 25 names from the industry who would be summoned for questioning.
However, later, NCB deputy director KPS Malhotra clarified that no names from Bollywood have been included to be summoned.
“We have not prepared any Bollywood lists. The list prepared earlier was of street vendors and traffickers. It is being confused with Bollywood. The names have not been zeroed, ”the official quoted the Free Press Journal as saying.
After the clarification, #Sorry Sara and #SorryRakul were trending on social networks.
