The Delhi government has asked district magistrates to release 2,446 members of Tablighi Jamaat from quarantine centers and to ensure that they do not stay anywhere else except in their homes.
District magistrates will explore the possibility of sending Tablighi members, who belong to other states, by bus to their designated places in accordance with social distancing rules and other protocols, CEO of DDMA Special KS Meena said in a letter. to the deputy commissioners (administration).
Up to 567 foreign attendees from the congregation held in the Nizamuddin area of Delhi in March will be turned over to the police, Meena said.
“They (the foreign Jamaat assistants) will be turned over to the police in connection with various violations, such as the visa violation,” a government official said Saturday.
Delhi Interior Minister Satyendar Jain recently ordered the release of Tablighi members who completed the required quarantine period at the centers and tested negative for COVID-19.
“Of those persons belonging to Delhi, who could be released according to prescribed guidelines, passes must be issued to travel from quarantine centers.”
“Under no circumstances should the aforementioned persons be allowed to stay in other places, including mosques,” Meena said in the letter.
With respect to Tablighi members who belong to other states, the nodal officer and the ACP area must ensure that those people arrive at their place of residence, he said.
“The DC must also inform the respective resident commissioner of their states regarding each and every movement of those people from Delhi,” said the special CEO of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).
Thousands of Tablighi Jamaat members had been removed from their Markaz (center) in Nizamuddin, where they had gathered for a religious congregation, and quarantined as the area became a major access point after several members gave positive for coronavirus.
On March 31, the Delhi Police Crime Branch had filed an FIR against seven people, including Maulana Saad Kandhalvi, in a complaint filed by Station House Officer Nizamuddin for supporting the congregation.
