Following the central government’s announcement, around 200 liquor stores across Delhi obtained permission to resume operations on Monday May 4. However, the decision to open liquor stores was counterproductive for the Delhi government, as large numbers of consumers formed crowded queues. stores This led to the implementation of a 70% “special crown rate” in addition to retail alcohol prices, which, unsurprisingly, did not make a difference as the stores continued to witness long lines.
To maintain social distancing, a new measure was taken. An online portal has been launched offering electronic tokens for customers to avoid long queues. By requesting an e-token, one can obtain a time interval to buy liquor at any of the closest stores.
How to request e-token liquor:
– To request an e-token, customers can go to https://www.qtoken.in/
– Send your name and phone number, after which an electronic token will be sent to your registered phone number
– Similar tokens will also be issued for customers who are queuing
Notably, as of this writing, the portal is not accessible as there appears to be a server error. While we await clarification, it appears that the Delhi government has been unable to maintain the website or, presumably, there have been too many requests.
It was recently reported that the Indian food delivery company Zomato is working to obtain permission to deliver alcohol. As of now, there are no legal provisions for home delivery of alcohol in India, something that the International Association of Spirits and Wines of India (ISWAI) is pushing to change along with Zomato and others.
