As the MLA from the Punjab Congress headed to the national capital on Wednesday to participate in a ‘Dharna Relay’ convened by Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, were stopped at the Delhi border by the police.
Former Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was also accompanying members of the judiciary such as Raja Warring, Avtar Henry Junior, Rajinder Beri, Kaka Lohgarh and Surjit Singh Dhiman, posted the video of his discussion with the Delhi police on his account of Facebook.
Sidhu said that he, being the representative of 2 lakh people, was detained. “This is democracy. We are representatives of 10 lakh people. But they don’t understand that we will hit back as much as they repress us. “
After the discussion with the police, the Delhi police escorted Sidhu and other members of the People’s Liberation Army present there. Warring said the police have told them that they will escort them to Punjab Bhawan, where the MLA of the Punjab Congress met.
His convoy was eventually escorted to Punjab Bhawan in Delhi. Sidhu, while speaking to the media, said that he was united with the CM on the issue of farmers and would not say anything that could have a bad reflection on the unit.
He said it was shocking that they were stopped at the border and that he had to argue with the police and go on Facebook live to get the police to give in and allow them to reach Punjab Bhawan.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister’s office said they have changed the headquarters of the dharna relay from Rajghat to Jantar Mantar. The CMO said it was made after a request from Delhi police for security reasons in the national capital.
Amarinder Singh left for Delhi in the morning. He would lead the first group of MLA to sit in the dharna against the President of India who did not give the CM time and also highlight the crisis in Punjab arising from the Center’s “stepmother deal” as freight trains are they have suspended Punjab hitting supplies. Coal, fertilizers and other essential supplies have been affected. Punjab’s thermal plants have been shut down due to a lack of coal availability and the company has imposed power cuts in the state.
President Ram Nath Kovind has not given the chief minister, who wanted to lead an MLA delegation, to meet with him to urge him to consent to Punjab bills that deny the Center’s agricultural laws.
The Center has also retained the Rural Development Fund in its sights for the current rice procurement season.
