Delhi BJP criticizes AAP government for VAT increase on gasoline and diesel; demands his withdrawal | Delhi News

NEW DELHI: The Delhi BJP said on Tuesday that the AAP government’s decision to increase VAT on diesel and gasoline will have a negative impact on people, especially the poor and farmers, who are already facing problems due to the coronavirus-induced blockage.
Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari demanded Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal to withdraw the increase in VAT (value added tax), saying it will lead to an increase in the prices of essential items.

“It is pure injustice on the part of the Kejriwal government. The Delhi BJP requires it to withdraw the walk because things like food grains, vegetables and other everyday items will become more expensive,” Tiwari said.

The price of gasoline in the national capital rose by Rs 1.67 per liter on Tuesday and diesel by Rs 7.10 per liter after the Delhi government raised the local sales tax (or VAT) on the two fuels .
Opposition leader in Delhi assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said the VAT increase will have a negative impact on people, especially the poor, farmers, the middle class and transporters.
“VAT on gasoline and diesel under the Arvind Kejriwal regime in Delhi in the past 5-6 years has increased 2.5 times and 1.5 times, respectively. No other state in the country has caused such a high increase in VAT. Bidhuri said in a statement.
He said Kejriwal should withdraw the walk as it was “against the people of Delhi” who were already facing problems due to the closure and the Covid-19 epidemic.
Gautam Gambhir, eastern BJP deputy in eastern India, examined the AAP government and said its economy is unmatched, referring to various schemes such as the free supply of water and energy promised by the ruling party before the elections of the assembly in February of this year.

“Before the elections, we will give everything for free, there is no lack of money. Two months later, they impose twice taxes, there is not even money for wages. The incomparable economy of the AAP,” Gambhir tweeted in Hindi.
With the new VAT increase, gasoline in Delhi now costs Rs 71.26 per liter compared to Rs 69.59 previously, oil industry sources said.
The price of diesel has risen to Rs 69.39 per liter from Rs 62.29.
This follows the Delhi government’s decision to raise gasoline VAT to 30 percent from 27 percent previously. In the case of diesel, VAT has doubled to almost 30 percent from 16.75 percent.
