The Karnataka government decided on Friday to reopen engineering, diploma and degree universities that were closed to students due to the COVID-19 pandemic on November 17.

“In a meeting that took place under the presidency of the Chief Minister, it was decided to reopen the university as of November 17. Engineering, diploma and degree universities will start, ”said Senior Vice Minister CN Ashwath Narayan.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, he said students will have the option of attending classes physically or online or they can enter blended learning using both options.

“Students can register online, those students who want to attend classes coming to universities must have the consent of their parents. Depending on the strength – how the classes should be held, in how many batches – everything will be decided together with all the necessary security SOPs ”, he added.

Narayan, who is also the head of the Higher Education Department, said that for the students who will stay in SC / ST, the social welfare shelters and OBC all the necessary security measures will be taken, the necessary transportation arrangements will also be made. to facilitate the conduct of classes.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa chaired the meeting of officials from the departments of health, social welfare, backward classes, finance, transportation and education, along with Narayan on starting classes at universities.
