A decision on imposing a lockdown on Maharashtra due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) situation could be expected in 8-10 days, Chief Deputy Minister Ajit Pawar said on Sunday.
“There were huge crowds during the Diwali period. Even in the time of Ganesha Chaturthi, we saw crowds. We are talking to relevant departments. We will review the situation for the next 8-10 days and then a decision will be made on the closure, ”Pawar said in Pune.
He added: “During Diwali, there was a huge crowd as if the wreath itself died due to the huge crowd. Now there are predictions that a second wave may come. The government has made many regulations to start schools that include different ways of how they should be disinfected. “
Pawar’s statement comes as Maharashtra is contemplating a state-level strategy to deal with an increase in Covid-19 cases, including introducing travel restrictions for people traveling from states with virus hot spots. like Delhi.
The Maharashtra government has allowed the reopening of schools for classes 9 to 12 starting Monday, depending on the Covid-19 situation in local areas.
