Decision on Allowing Common People to Travel by Mumbai At New Years: Official | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: A decision on allowing the general public to ride local suburban trains in Mumbai will be made after the New Year celebrations are over, Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said on Thursday.
He was speaking to reporters after meeting actor Anupam Kher at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters.
The number of new coronavirus patients in the city is decreasing by the day, Chahal said, adding that the number of new asymptomatic patients is high now.
In light of this, a decision will be made after the Christmas and New Year celebrations to allow ordinary people to travel in suburban locations, he said.
Currently, only certain categories of people, including those working for essential services, can travel on local trains, Mumbai Lifeguard.
The municipal commissioner also expressed concern about a large number of people in the city who do not wear masks.
If people did not follow security protocol for the coronavirus, the administration will have to impose a night curfew, Chahal warned.
Kher visited BMC headquarters to present the commissioner with a book he wrote, “Your best day is today,” which is based on his experiences during the confinement.
The book has a chapter on the efforts made by the BMC to address the pandemic.
