After three days of protest, relatives of the priest, who was allegedly set on fire in the village of Bukna, in the Karauli district of Rajasthan, and the villagers ended their protest on Saturday night after holding talks with government representatives.
The 50-year-old temple priest died in a Jaipur hospital Thursday night from burns he received after he was set on fire over a land dispute on Wednesday.
On Saturday afternoon there was a meeting of a delegation of neighbors and relatives with the district collector and the police superintendent.
“The family members will receive relief compensation of Rs 10 lakh, a contractual job for a family member in the government and financial help from Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana,” said SP Mridul Kachawa.
He said that the police station officer (SHO) from the Sapotra police station and the local patwari have been transferred. A departmental investigation will be carried out against them. “The investigation of this case is in charge of the circle office, Hindaun. There will also be a special team from Jaipur that will work in coordination with the district team to arrest the remaining defendants, ”Kachawa said.
Hundreds of villagers, senior BJP leaders and members of various social groups arrived in Bukna village on Saturday morning and launched a protest.
Previously, family members demanded compensation, a government job for a relative, and an action against the police at the Sapotra police station. “We are demanding compensation of Rs 50 lakh, security for family members, government work for one of the family members and all the Sapotara police station staff to be transferred,” said one of the family members before the government announced compensation.
“Where is the government? The deceased has six daughters and the government does not respond, ”he said. “How is the family going to survive without the help of the government? We will not cremate the body unless our demands are met and the rest of the four fugitive defendants are arrested. “
Governor Kalraj Mishra called Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday morning about the law and order situation in the state, especially referring to the alleged murder of the temple priest in Karauli and the rape of a minor in Barmer, according to a statement from the Raj Bhavan.
The governor expressed concern about these incidents. The CM told the governor that the state government had learned of all these incidents and the Rajasthan police were investigating them.
“We will not forgive any guilty. All incidents will be investigated fairly, ”said the CM. Gehlot said it was monitoring the law and order situation in the state and had instructed officials to take necessary action.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP Kirori Lal Meena and Karauli-Dholpur MP Lok Sabha Manoj Rajoriya also arrived at Bukna village in Sapotara city on Saturday morning, where they protested along with family members and the villagers of the deceased.
Meena had warned the government that if the demands of the relatives are not met, they will arrive at Civil Lines with the body and launch a protest.
A three-member inquiry committee, consisting of Jaipur MP Ramcharan Bohra, National Secretary Alka Gurjar, and former Bharatiya Janata Secretary General Yuva Morcha Jitendra Meena, also arrived in Sapotara city.
On Wednesday, the defendant Kailash Meena and other members of his family allegedly set fire to the priest’s hut as he had been trying to prevent the invasion of temple lands. The wounded priest was taken to the district hospital from where doctors sent him to Jaipur.
Vaishnav was admitted to SMS Hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries on Thursday night.
On Friday, the alleged murder turned into a political dispute. BJP state chairman Satish Poonia said he had formed a 3-member committee to find the facts of the case.
Former chief minister Vasundhara Raje said in a tweet that the murder of the temple priest could not be condemned enough. “We can’t express enough pain about that,” he said.
After facing political attack, Gehlot wrote on Twitter: “The murder of Babulal Vaishnav in Sapotara, Karauli, is extremely unfortunate and reprehensible; civil society has no place for such acts. The state government is with the grieving family at this sad time. The main defendant has been arrested and the action continues. The guilty will not be saved. ”
Congress party whip boss Mahesh Joshi said: “I have spoken with the DGP; the family will be provided security and their demands will be discussed ”. He said he would write a letter to the chief minister demanding strict action against the land invaders.
