The deadline for submitting the annual GST declaration has been extended: In order to provide relief amid the COVID-19 crisis, the government has extended the due date to provide annual GST or goods and services tax returns for the 2019-20 financial year by two more months. The new deadline is February 28, 2021, instead of December 31. This applies to companies that file annual returns as well as audit reports for the year up to March 31, 2020. Previously, the taxpayer had extended the last date from October 31 to December 31, 2020. Now, companies can file the annual return, using Form GSTR-9, as well as the reconciliation statement, Form GSTR-9C, for the financial year 2019-20 before February 28, 2021. Registered taxpayers use the GSTR 9 form to file a GST return each year. The statement contains all the details about the incoming and outgoing supplies under different headings. The GSTR-9C form comprises a reconciliation statement, which matches the details provided in a GSTR-9 statement along with the audited annual financial statements.
