The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recorded its first victory in Srinagar in the District Development Council (DDC) elections after its candidate Aijaz Hussain won the Khonmoh-II seat.
Hussain attributed his success to the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the hard work of party workers. He also said that the DDC election was a fight between the BJP and the other parties.
“This is a victory for the BJP. The propaganda has failed as people have shown their faith in the prime minister and his policies. This is a message that the nationalists are prospering in Kashmir, ”he told reporters in front of the counting center at SKICC in Srinagar.
BJP leader and Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi had campaigned for the BJP candidate in the predominantly Shiite Balahama area on the outskirts of Srinagar district.
“Everyone rallied against the BJP because they were afraid of it. But still, the BJP won seats in the valley. Now, they should do some introspection. People want development and this is a vote for development, ”said Hussain.
The counting of the DDC elections was completed in Srinagar and independent candidates won half of the seats.
Although the BJP had hoped to reach at least double digits in Kashmir alone, however, the union of six parties, especially two large regional parties, the National Conference (NC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), created obstacles in victory. . of the BJP, which has been very active on the ground since the party regained support from the PDP in 2018 and the coalition government fell into J&K.
BJP state unit spokesperson Altaf Thakur lost the DDC election of the Dadsara segment in Tral.
