Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by five wickets in the 34th match of IPL 2020 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday. With the Delhi-based franchise needing 17 final runs and a fit Shikhar Dhawan to negotiate, CSK captain MS Dhoni handed the ball to Ravindra Jadeja rather than Dwayne Bravo whom he usually relies on in such situations. Jadeja failed to deliver the desired impact, with Axar Patel crushing him by three sixes. The veteran Indian cricketer called Bravo’s lack of physical condition and inability to go out onto the field after leaving as the factor that influenced his decision.
“Bravo was out of shape. He went out and didn’t come back. The options were Jaddu and Karn. I went with Jaddu,” the CSK captain said when asked about the final in the post-match conference.
Dhoni also had words of praise for DC starter Shikhar Dhawan, who scored his first century in the IPL. However, he criticized his fielders for dropping the batter numerous times.
“Shikhar’s wicket was important but we knocked him down several times. If he keeps hitting, he will keep the strike rate high. Also, the wicket played better in the second half, but we can’t take credit from Shikhar,” he added.
