Day 4 of the monsoon session of parliament: what to expect today

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will read a statement on Thursday on the India-China border clash in Rajya Sabha.

At 12 pm, Singh will make a statement on “Developments on our borders in Ladakh”. Even when a full-blown discussion on the declaration has been ruled out, opposition parties, particularly Congress, will decide the future course of action after hearing Singh.

In a meeting between government representatives and opposition parties on Wednesday, the Center agreed to a debate in Parliament on four key opposition-sponsored issues: GST, economy and employment, national education policy, and the environmental impact assessment project.

On Tuesday, Singh told the Lok Sabha that India is committed to a peaceful resolution of the border clash with China, and that India and China have not reached a mutually acceptable solution so far. He said Indian forces are determined to protect the country’s security and sovereignty and inflicted heavy casualties on Chinese forces when they clashed with them in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley on June 15.

The defense minister said that the violent behavior of the Chinese throughout LAC has violated all bilateral agreements, including those signed in 1993 and 1996. “China is not respecting the usual alignment of the border with India. The alignment has not only been defined by treaties but has historically been maintained. ”

The government and the Opposition, however, continue to disagree on the three agricultural ordinances and the bill on banking regulation. The differences could lead to large protests in the Lok Sabha, where two of the three ordinances are scheduled to be replaced by bills on Thursday.

The Farmers Agreement (Empowerment and Protection) on Price Assurance and the Agricultural Services Bill of 2020 and the Agricultural Products Trade and Trade (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill of 2020 are listed for approval on Thursday. While many experts have praised the new laws, opposition parties and farmers’ organizations have called them beneficial only to corporations.

The Lok Sabha will also deal with the appropriations bills for the first supplementary budget and the tax bill and other laws (relaxation and amendment of certain provisions), 2020, will be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

In the Rajya Sabha, Ministers’ Salaries and Allowances Bill (Amendment) 2020, Central Council of Homeopathy Bill (Amendment) 2020 and Central Council of Medicine Bill of India ( amendment) of 2020 are scheduled for approval.
