Abdul Majeed Kutty was arrested by the Gujarat Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) at the Mango roundabout below the Mango Police Station (PS) in Jamshedpur on Saturday night, police said.
Abdul Majeed has been on the run for the past 24 years and had fled to Malaysia after an FIR was filed against him under section 25 (1) of the Gun Act and 4 (b) / 5 (b) / 6 of the Explosives Act in a case involving explosives and weapons sent by Dawood Ibrahim at the behest of a Pakistani agency to carry out bomb explosions in Gujarat and Maharashtra on Republic Day in 1997.
The FIR against him was presented in Mehsana, Gujarat for smuggling 4 kilograms of RDX, 115 pistols, 750 Pakistani-made cartridges and 10 detonators in 1996. The transport of weapons and explosives took place at Bombay Guest House near Dudhsagar Dairy on December 23, 1996.

Gujarat ATS had arrived in the city on Friday morning and sought cooperation to verify the address and other details of Md Kamal, Haroon Rashid’s son. A joint Mango and Gujarat ATS police team caught him from his car near Mango Chowk last night. During interrogation, it was discovered that he was a member of an international criminal gang and had fled and was living in Malaysia, Dubai and Bangkok with a false passport in the name of Md Kamal before arriving in Jamshedpur ”, Dr. M Tamil Vanan, Jamshedpur Senior Superintendent Police (SSP), he said.
“Abdul Majeed Kutty was hiding in the Sahara city complex under Mango PS for the past years under the false name of Kamal, while his real name is Abdul Majeed Kutty. He was wanted by Gujarat ATS for more than two decades. Gujarat ATS has left the city taking the detained defendants, ”added the SSP.
According to available information, this shipment of explosives, weapons and ammunition was smuggled across the Barmer border into Rajasthan and was supposed to be shipped to Ahmedabad and Mumbai. Originally from Kerala, Abdul Majeed Kutty lived a luxurious life in a duplex bungalow in Sahara City Complex and was stopped by Gujarat ATS and Mango police as he was driving to the market in his Ford car.
