CHENNAI: Like precautionary measure, power supply it was cut off in various parts of Chennai due to incessant rain.
In some areas, falling trees caused power outages, and power plant workers coordinated with other agencies to remove debris and restore power.
“In our area, the power supply was cut off around 3 in the morning and it was only restored at 9 in the morning. A tree had fallen on a power line, ”said M. Patel, a resident of Puzhuthivakkam.
The power supply was suspended for a few hours in the areas of T Nagar, KK Nagar, Tambaram, Velachery, Madipakkam, Nanganallur, Thiruvanmiyur in southern Chennai and in Washermanpet, Royapuram and Pulianthope in northern Chennai.
In Semmenchery, there was no power since noon, a resident said.
A senior TANGEDCO official told TOI that the feeders had been turned off due to heavy rains. “After checking the waterlogging, the feeders go off one by one,” said the officer. According to the official, they wanted to avoid accidents related to electricity.
