CHENNAI: Very severe cyclonic storm Nivar crossed Tamil nadu Y Puducherry coasts between 11.30 am on November 25 and 2.30 am on November 26 at an estimated wind speed of 120-130 km / h bringing gusts of wind and heavy rain to the north coast and inland Tamil Nadu.
The storm weakened into a severe cyclonic storm at 2.30am and would further weaken into a cyclonic storm in less than three hours as it moved northwest.
Very heavy and sometimes extremely heavy spells struck parts of Cuddalore, Karaikal, Puducherry, Nagapattinam, and Chennai.
Trees fell in various parts of the districts along the path of the cyclone that blocked several roads. Many fishing boats along the coast came loose from their mooring. Mudichur in Chennai, which was hit hardest by the 2015 floods, was again flooded with waist-deep water.
When it started moving inland, the storm weakened to a severe cyclonic storm around 2.30am and moved north-northwest. It could weaken further and turn into a cyclonic storm in the next three hours. The regions that passed through the storm continue to see gusts of wind and cloudy weather with very light periods.
