Cyberpunk 2077 Players Are Getting Refunds Due To Bug Infested Game – Report


Cyberpunk 2077 players are reportedly receiving refunds for digital copies on the PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam platforms. Cyberpunk 2077, released globally on December 10, was one of the most anticipated game releases this year, thanks to developer CD Projekt Red’s stellar record with the 2015 critically acclaimed action RPG The Witcher. 3: Wild Hunt. However, at the game’s launch, players were hit by disappointing bugs that severely undermined the graphics and playability on all platforms. Now, players have taken to Reddit to share that PlayStation is issuing refunds for digital copies of the game following complaints.

TO UPDATE: At 1:17 pm IST, Cyberpunk 2077 tweeted from its official identifier that it will release “two big patches” in January and February to address the issues facing gamers on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The tweet mentions that the update will not bring next-gen graphics to the aforementioned consoles. The post reads: “They won’t make the next-gen game look like it’s running on a high-spec PC or next-gen console, but it will be closer to that experience than it is now.”

According to a report from VGC, a Reddit user shared details on how to receive full refunds for their copy of Cyberpunk 2077 for PlayStation 4. The user noted that the game was played for more than 10 hours, far exceeding the window of playtime. typical two hour period which is generally applied for a successful refund. It should be noted that Sony does not have a set return policy for games. However, given the growing fan buzz regarding the game, Sony doesn’t seem to be stopping to keep its customers satisfied.

In the Reddit post, the user said that they had to enter a support chat with PlayStation through the company’s customer service line in the US. Therefore, refunds may only be available in Sony in the United States. According to a report from GameSpot, customers can get a refund from Microsoft for Xbox digital editions, as well as Steam for PC editions.

To vent their frustration at the multitude of bugs in the game, players took to Twitter to post various annoying, and sometimes hilarious, bug cases using # CyberBug2077. While some posts showed immensely poor graphics quality on consoles, others showed cases where NPCs were walking through walls and floors, or where the player simply got stuck in the middle of the game.

Despite reported bugs and Twitter uproar, CD Projekt recently announced that the company would take full responsibility for the launch and that employees will get full bonuses no matter how the game is reviewed. “We initially had a bonus system that focused on game ratings and release date, but after considering it, we feel the move is simply not fair under the circumstances,” wrote Adam Badowski, studio head and creative director of Cyberpunk 2077, in an email to staff. “We underestimated the length and complexity involved in making this a reality, yet you still did everything you could to deliver an ambitious and special game.”
