Ahmedabad: In an attempt to stop the increase in COVID-19 cases, the Gujarat government has decided to impose a curfew on Rajkot, Surat and Vadodara between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. on November 21. The decision to impose a curfew on the three cities was announced by Gujarat Senior Deputy Minister Nitin Patel.

The decision to impose a night curfew will be effective every day until further announcement.

The curfew in Ahmedabad began at 9 pm on November 20 and will end at 6 am on November 23.

As the Gujarat government has imposed a full curfew on the city of Ahmedabad, the Ahmedabad metro passenger services will remain suspended on November 21-22. Metro services will resume on November 23, Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation said.

All speculation aside, Gujarat’s Chief Minister Vijay Rupani announced today that his government has no plans to impose a statewide lockdown to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Taking a tough stance against people violating the COVID-19 protocol, Gujarat’s chief minister said police have been instructed to crack down on those without face masks and violating social distancing rules.

The administration has decided to enforce the night curfew in Ahmedabad from November 23 from 9 pm to 6 am every day until further orders.

Since the past few days, the city is witnessing more than 200 coronavirus infections in a single day.

Gujarat’s health department reported today that 1,420 more people were found to be infected with cases of coronavirus disease in the past 24 hours, bringing the count to 1,94,402. With seven COVID-19 patients succumbing, the death toll due to COVID reached 3,837.

However, on a positive note, 1,040 patients were reported to have recovered in the past 24 hours.

According to the health department, 1,77,515 people have been discharged after recovering from the deadly contagious disease so far.
