Former Indian batsman Aakash Chopra has said that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) should not retain MS Dhoni if there is a mega auction ahead of next year’s Indian Premier League (IPL). Chopra said that if CSK decides to retain Dhoni, he will lose 15 million rupees, which he believes can be used elsewhere. The former Indian batsman suggested CSK should send Dhoni back to the auction pool and then use the Right To Match (RTM) card to buy him back.
By doing this, Chennai Super Kings can save some money and the team can make a good team from scratch.
“I think CSK should release MS Dhoni going into the mega auction, if there is a mega auction then you will be with that player for three years. But will Dhoni stay with you for three years? I’m not saying don’t stay with Dhoni, he will play the next IPL, but if he keeps him as a retained player, he will have to pay 15 million rupees, “Chopra said in a video posted on his Facebook account.
“If Dhoni doesn’t stay with you for three years and play only the 2021 season, you will get the 15 million rupees back for the 2022 edition, but how are you going to find a player worth those 15 rupees? That’s the one mega advantage. auction, you can build a great team if you have the money.
“If you release Dhoni for the mega auction, you can choose him with the Right To Match card and you can choose the right players if you have the desired money in your kitty. You can choose Dhoni at the auction, from a CSK point of view, if they release Dhoni and then pick him up at auction, it would be beneficial to them, “he added.
Chopra also said that of the eight franchises currently in the IPL, CSK really needs a mega auction before next year’s IPL. Currently, it is not known if CSK will keep the players who played for them this year.
Shane Watson has already announced his retirement from all forms of cricket and as a result, he will not be seen in action.
“CSK needs a mega auction, the team doesn’t have many players that they can retain. If you want to build a team from scratch, are you willing to spend a lot of money on players like Faf du Plessis and Ambati Rayudu? I don’t think CSK will notice on players like Raina and Harbhajan if they are building a team from scratch, “said Chopra.
