NEW DELHI: The next two and a half months will be crucial in the fight against coronavirus due to the winter season and festivals, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said on Friday.
Vardhan, who is also Minister of Science and Technology, said that three candidate vaccines are progressing well in India, one of them in the advanced stage III clinical trial and two others in stage II.
He expressed hope that India will soon have indigenous production of coronavirus vaccines.
“The next two and a half months will be very crucial for us in our fight against the crown due to the winter season and the festival season. It is the responsibility of all citizens not to lower their guard and to follow the appropriate Covid-19 behavior to slow the spread of the infection, ”said Vardhan.
The minister was chairing a meeting on appropriate Covid-19 behavior with heads / directors of institutions from the Department of Science and Technology and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
He said that the virus has negatively affected the entire world, but simple precautionary measures are effective in preventing coronavirus to a great extent.
“The use of masks, covering the face, especially in public spaces, and following the respiratory and hand rules are the cardinal principles of the social vaccine,” said Vardhan.
He highlighted the importance of physical distancing for the effective containment of the disease.
On the country’s fight against Covid-19, the minister said that India is continuously recording new milestones in the treatment of Covid-19.
“Our recovery rate is the highest in the world and mortality is among the lowest. Active cases are steadily declining. All parameters have demonstrated the success of the Covid-19 containment strategy followed by all states and territories of the union.
“We have successfully increased our testing capacity to meet the requirements. India has also now become self-sufficient in terms of masks, PPE equipment and fans that we used to import, ”said the minister.
