NEW DELHI: Nine states and Union territories have not reported any new Covid-19 patients in the past 24 hours and the rate of duplication of cases has increased to 12.6 days, union health minister Harsh Vardhan said on Wednesday. Vardhan noted that test capacity in the country has increased to 1,00,000 tests per day and so far a total of 18.56,477 tests have been conducted for Covid-19 with 94,708 samples analyzed on Tuesday.
So far, 352 government and 140 private laboratories have been approved to test Covid-19, authorities said.
According to the statement, Vardhan during the meeting appreciated the steps taken so far by the Punjab administration regarding strict adherence to closure measures, meticulous follow-up of contacts, tracing people in containment areas and handing over to domicile of essential services, articles and medicines.
The number of active Covid-19 cases was 47,480, while 24,385 people recovered and one patient migrated, the Union health ministry said.
“Therefore, about 32.83 percent of patients have recovered so far,” said a senior ministry official.
The total of confirmed cases also includes foreign citizens.
