A crowd surrounding Tejashwi Yadav’s helicopter during his campaign for the ongoing Bihar elections raised security and Covid concerns from his RJD party.
In images shared on social media, a packed crowd was seen pressing against the Tejashwi Yadav helicopter, with no signs of distancing and other prescribed security measures for the coronavirus.
Sanjay Yadav, a political advisor to the RJD leader (Rashtriya Janata Dal), called it a security breach and a “deliberate attempt” to jeopardize his campaign. The state government had done nothing, he said, despite the former chief deputy minister being a Y-plus protégé.
“Such a security breach for an opposition leader who is a protégé AND plus. Tejashwi Yadav and the pilot have to ask the crowd to disperse. Despite repeated requests to (the Election Commission), the situation remains It appears to be a deliberate decision trying to endanger the campaign and is a threat to his life, “Sanjay Yadav tweeted along with a letter the party had previously written to the Electoral Commission.
RJD senior leader Manoj Kumar Jha had complained to the powerful electoral body that due to “inadequate security arrangements” at the leader’s meetings, “anti-social elements cause immense problems and unpleasant scenes.”
The Election Commission had warned about Covid and announced rules for campaigning and voting as the country battles infections. However, the Bihar campaign has seen large rallies and gatherings where crowds present a terrifying specter of virus super-spreaders.
The Tejashwi Yadav rallies, in particular, have seen large crowds, cautiously tossed by the winds. Very few people were seen wearing masks and social distancing was non-existent.
