Cricket Australia CEO Adelaide’s “Confident” test to go ahead as planned

Cricket Australia Acting Chief Executive Officer Nick Hockley confirmed on Tuesday that the day and night test between India and Australia in Adelaide will proceed as planned. South Australia had imposed a lockdown after a cluster of COVID cases was detected last week by placing the pink ball test between the two sides under the scanner. Hockley reported that the situation is now under control and the lockdown was lifted on November 21, adding that he is very “excited” about the Pink Ball Test to be held according to the schedule, that is, on December 17.

“There was a small cluster of COVID cases last week and the South Australian government has assured us that it has been contained and that the closure was lifted on Saturday. We are therefore confident that the Adelaide test will be carried out as per the programmed “. Hockley said at a virtual press conference.

“We have been fortunate that there has been a relatively insignificant community transmission, but we are taking precautions. As I said, we are confident that the first test will take place in Adelaide as scheduled and I am very excited,” said Hockley while responding to Inquiry from ANI.

It has been more than 10 days since the Indian cricket team arrived in Australia for the long multi-format tour. While the squad remains in quarantine, the boys have been training simultaneously with both the white and red balls.

“All players are our number one priority and we are working closely with BCCI to provide the best possible conditions for training and also accommodation,” said Hockley.

India and Australia are scheduled to face each other in three ODIs, three T20Is and four Tests.

The tour will kick off with the three-game ODI series, scheduled to start in Sydney starting Friday. After the cue ball match, both sides will turn their attention to the longest format of the game.

“I would like to express my gratitude to the BCCI and all the players for their sacrifice to make this tour possible and all the staff who have worked hard behind the scenes in recent months,” said the acting CEO of CA.

“It is a very important series and after the year everyone had, it will bring a great deal of joy to cricket fans.”

The four-game series will be part of the World Test Championship (WTC). The series will air live on Sony Sports channels beginning November 27 at 8:00 am (IST).

Australia is at the top of the rankings, while India is in second position after ICC modified the points system for the WTC due to the coronavirus pandemic.
