New Delhi, May 7

The director of the Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Dr. Randeep Guleria, said Thursday that India may witness the peak of COVID-19 cases in June or July.

“The answer to when the peak of COVID-19 cases will be in India depends on data modeling. Both national and international experts are analyzing the data. Most of them have guessed that India will likely see the peak in June or July, ” he said.

Dr. Guleria added, it was previously discussed that the peak will be in May, but due to prolonged blocking, the peak has also spread.

“It is a dynamic process that depends on several factors. It is an enduring battle. The cases will come even after the peak passes. People’s lifestyle in terms of travel and socialization will change,” he said.

The AIIMS Director also said that only with time will the quantum effect of the blockade in the country be known. Cases increase with Thursday’s count by 52,952, including 1,783 deaths according to data from the Union Ministry of Health. The total count includes 35,902 active cases, while 15,266 patients have recovered from COVID-19. – IANS
