Amid a continued increase in Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra, Railways reiterated today that children will not be allowed to ride local trains and that only women will be able to board them.
“The Board of Railways has only allowed female passengers to travel on local trains during stipulated hours over the Mumbai metropolitan region,” indicates the directive issued by DRM / MMCT.
The decision was made after a large number of female passengers were noted to be traveling with children on trains.
“The Board of Railways has only allowed female passengers to travel on local trains during stipulated hours over the Mumbai metropolitan region. However, it has been noted that female passengers travel with their children, ”said DRM Mumbai Central, WR in a tweet.
Rail Protection Force (RPF) personnel will be deployed at each entrance gate of the stations to detain women who are with children to board local trains.
“In view of the above, it is reiterated once again that only women are allowed during the stipulated hours and no children. Hence, it is requested to delegate RPF at each entrance door and give the necessary instructions to restrict the entry of children at the entrance itself ”, mentioned another tweet.
The Maharashtra government in early October had allowed all women to travel on local trains as part of the “Start Over” mission.
Maharashtra continued to witness a significant increase in Covid-19 cases, with the state reporting 6,406 new cases on Thursday to bring the Covid-19 case count to 18,02,365.
