Central government officials, including Prime Minister PK Mishra’s top secretary, had discussed various plans regarding the distribution of the coronavirus vaccine across the country on Saturday. According to a report by The Indian Express, a high-level government meeting was chaired where top government officials (cabinet secretary, senior scientific advisor, empowered action group coordinators, and department secretaries) discussed having an effective system of COVID-19 vaccine distribution. The stages of vaccine development were also discussed along with the need for district health action plans, in addition to the country’s overall Coronavirus strategy, according to the report.
According to the report, Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan discussed the current status of the eVIN Platform, which helps monitor the vaccine supply chain, the delivery system for coronavirus vaccines once their availability is confirmed, and a beneficiary registration system. He also spoke about the state of the states regarding the trajectory of their cases, the test numbers and the fatality rate.
A similar meeting was held last month, noting that there will be two panels looking at vaccines in India. The first panel was expected to verify the manufacture of coronavirus vaccines in the country and score clinical trials of vaccines by phases. This is expected to drive faster manufacturing of coronavirus vaccines in India. Another panel will look at vaccine administration. The primary responsibility of this panel was established to ensure the storage of all vaccines in India as long as they are ready for distribution. The second group will also work on the cold chain, as well as the quantity of vaccines.
Meanwhile, in India, three vaccines are currently in the second phase of human clinical trials. These include Covaxin from Bharat Biotech, ZyCov-D from Zydus Cadila, and Covishield from Oxford.
