Covid-19 vaccine: Serum Institute will begin the final phase of the trial next week


The final phase of Oxford-Astrazeneca’s Covishield human clinical trial will begin at Sassoon General Hospital in Pune next week, after the Indian Controller General of Drugs gave the go-ahead to the Serum Institute of India (SII) to continue your essay.

“The phase III trial of the ‘Covishield’ vaccine will begin at Sassoon hospital starting next week. It is likely to start on Monday. Some volunteers have already come forward for the test. The candidate vaccine dose will be administered between 150 and 200 volunteers, ”Dr. Muralidhar Tambe, Dean of Sassoon General Hospital, told PTI.

Here is a chronology of the Covishield trial in India

* On August 3, India’s Comptroller General of Medicines allowed IBS to conduct the second and third phase of Covishield’s human clinical trials.

* On August 25, the SII began the second phase of the trial

* On September 8, Oxford and Astrazeneca confirmed that a person who was given the injection reported being ill, after which trials in the UK were halted on September 6.

* The SII also stopped preparations for any further trials.

* On 12 September Astrazeneca announced that it will resume the trial as UK authorities have declared the vaccine safe.

* SII said it would await DGCI approval to resume trials in India.

* DGCI has given the SII the green light on September 15

Starting Saturday, the Pune hospital where phase 3 of the trial will begin began enrolling volunteers.
