Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a high-level virtual meeting on Wednesday to review the situation of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the country.
The prime ministers and ministers of health of the seven states, which have a high viral load of cases, will attend the virtual meeting.
“The prime minister will chair a high-level virtual meeting with CMs and health ministers from seven high-burden Covid-19 states and union territories (UTs) on Wednesday to review the status and readiness of the response and the managing the viral outbreak, ”According to a government statement.

Seven states, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh (AP), Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh (UP), Tamil Nadu (TN), Delhi and Punjab, have reported high viral load of cases. They represent 63% of all Covid-19 cases in the country.
According to the central database, these states also account for 65.5% of total Covid-19 cases in the country and 77% of total deaths from viral infection.
Punjab and Delhi, along with the other five states, have recently reported a daily increase in the number of Covid-19 cases. Maharashtra, Punjab and Delhi report a fatality rate (CFR) of at least 2%.
In addition to Punjab and UP, the positivity rate of the other five states is above the national average of 8.52%, according to data shared by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH & FW).
“The Center has been leading the fight against Covid-19 in the country in effective collaboration and close coordination with state / UT governments. The Union Government is supporting them to improve the medical and health infrastructure. The clinical management capabilities of physicians attending intensive care units (ICUs) have been substantially enhanced through the electronic ICU teleconsultation exercise conducted by MoH & FW in collaboration with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) , New Delhi, “according to a statement released by the ministry on Tuesday.
The Center has been holding regular review meetings with states and has even dispatched teams of experts to states affected by the viral outbreak.
“The high-level review with the states has ensured adequate oxygen availability in hospitals and healthcare facilities dedicated to Covid-19. The Center also regularly delegates multidisciplinary teams to the states and UTs to support and control them in matters of containment, surveillance, testing and efficient clinical management of Covid-19 cases. The central teams also guide local authorities in the effective management of challenges related to timely diagnosis, ”the statement added.
