New DelhiA coronavirus patient was allegedly raped by an ambulance driver while being taken to hospital in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district on Saturday.
Police said the girl was in quarantine at her relative’s home in Panthalam and tested positive on Saturday.
Health workers had sent two women by ambulance to two different hospitals. Noufal dropped the other patient and took the girl to a lonely place and assaulted her. The patient then recounted the ordeal to hospital staff who reported it to the police. A medical examination of the victim confirmed the rape.
The Pathanamthitta district police superintendent said one Noufal, the ambulance driver, has been detained. The driver who was part of the state health department came from the Alappuzha district, Indian Express reported. The health department had said there would be an investigation into the incident.
Then the defendant was arrested a few hours after the crime. He had been a history writer and had previously been arrested for attempted murder.
Noufal had been hired on a temporary basis and how he got the job is under investigation, according to a report in the Hindustan Times.
