A man in Taiwan received a hefty USD 3,500 (Rs 2,58,329) fine by authorities for violating coronavirus quarantine regulations. The man is known to have been punished for violating quarantine rules for only eight seconds.
According to government authorities, the man, a migrant worker from the Philippines, was in quarantine at a hotel in Kaohsiung City, southern Taiwan, when he violated quarantine regulations.
CNN reported that the man was caught on a closed-circuit television camera after he left the hotel and one of the hotel’s employees informed the Health Department. Officials soon arrived at the hotel and fined the man 100,000 Taiwanese dollars.
In Taiwan, the quarantine rules are very strict and people cannot leave their rooms. The Health Department said those in quarantine should be aware that they will be heavily fined for violating the rules.
It should be noted that Taiwan has earned global praise for its efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. The Taiwanese government acted swiftly by enacting strict closures and helping Taiwan to better control the pandemic.
