COVID-19: Karnataka schools will reopen from this date for students in class 6 and up | India News


Schools in Karnataka for classes 6 onwards will reopen from January 1, 2021, but students in classes 6 to 9 will need to obtain a written consent letter from their parents if they want to attend the classes. Schools for students in classes 10-12 will also remain open and students will be required to attend their regular classes.

“The decision was made on Saturday after a meeting chaired by Prime Minister BS Yediyurappa in the presence of Health Minister K Sudhakar. The meeting was held in the context of the detailed report presented by the Karntaka health department technical advisory committee. The committee has given the necessary guidelines and the necessary suggestions. The committee’s report suggests that classes for students studying in classes 10 and 12 can start from January 1, ”said Education Minister Suresh Kumar.

“Students with symptoms of Covid-19 do not need to attend classes. It is not compulsory to attend Vidyagama classes (class 6 to 9). Only half-day school will be allowed with a maximum limit of 20 students in each class. The provision for the noon meal will not continue but meal kits will be delivered to the students’ homes, “he added.

The reopening of schools for classes sixth onwards was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa. The Karnataka CM tweeted after the meeting that a decision on reopening the schools for other classes would be made after two weeks.

It should be noted that schools were closed in Karnataka in March, just days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi imposed the national lockdown on March 25 to slow the spread of the coronavirus. In Karnataka, the engineering and undergraduate faculties reopened on November 17.
