Covid-19: India’s number of active cases from 2.81 lakh now, only 2.78% of total cases | India News

NEW DELHI: The trend of more Covid-19 daily recoveries than the number of new infections has led to a continued contraction in India’s active case load, which is currently 2.81,919 and accounts for only 2.78 per percent of total infections, the Union said on Friday the health ministry.
Continuing the trend of the past 28 days, India has reported more daily recoveries than daily new cases in a 24-hour span, the ministry said.
While 23,067 people in India tested positive for Covid-19, 24,661 new recoveries were recorded during the same period. This has led to a net decrease of 1,930 cases from total active cases in one day, the ministry said.
“India continues to have one of the lowest cases per million people in the world (7,352), much lower than many other countries in the western hemisphere. The global average of cases per million people is 9,931,” the ministry said.
Recoveries have risen to 97,17,834.
The gap between recoveries and active cases is constantly increasing and currently stands at 94,35,915, the ministry stressed.
He said that 75.86 percent of the new recovered cases are contributed by 10 states and territories of the union.
Kerala leads with 4,801 people recovering from Covid-19, while Maharashtra recorded 3,171 recoveries. West Bengal recorded another 2,054 daily recoveries.
Ten states and UT have contributed 77.38 percent of the new cases.
Kerala reported 5,177 cases in the last 24 hours. Maharashtra recorded another 3,580 new cases, while West Bengal recorded 1,590 new cases.
The ministry said 336 cases of death have been reported within 24 hours, of which 81.55 percent are from 10 states and UT.
He said 26.48 percent of the new reported deaths are from Maharashtra, which recorded 89 deaths. Delhi also recorded a death toll of 37, while West Bengal reported 32 new deaths.
“When compared globally, India has one of the lowest fatal cases per million population (106). India’s fatality rate is currently 1.45 percent,” the ministry said.
