Covid-19: diabetes, hypertension common comorbidities in patients, says Ministry of Health


Hypertension and diabetes are the most common comorbidities found in patients with coronavirus (Covid-19), with 5.74% and 5.20% of patients analyzed as part of the Ministry of Health’s disease surveillance initiative of the Union suffering from these two medical conditions, respectively.

About 76% of those infected had comorbidities, and conditions that have been commonly seen in Covid-19 patients include hypertension, diabetes, liver disease, heart disease, asthma, chronic kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), immunity. low, malignancy, bronchitis and chronic neuromuscular disease among others.

The age distribution of data for patients analyzed as of Monday showed that nearly 63% of positive cases were 40 years old or younger, and nearly 10% of positive cases were over 60 years old.

Men represented 68.48% and women 31.51% of all cases.

The findings on the age distribution of infections and deaths in India appear to be in line with what scientists have observed about global trends in the disease: it disproportionately infects younger people, while severely affecting younger people. old people.

Fever, cough, and sore throat are the three most common symptoms that Covid-19 cases experience. Of the analyzed data of 37,084 laboratory confirmed cases, 25.03% had a fever, 16.36 had developed a cough, and 7.35% also complained of a sore throat (itch).

Dyspnea was observed in 5.11% of the cases.

Government data shows that India’s patient recovery chart is also steadily increasing, with nearly one in four Covid-19 cases being healthy people with no known comorbidities, leading to better chances of recovery.

At least 90,000 Covid-19 patients have been cured and discharged from home isolation or from facilities and hospitals every day for three consecutive days.

“This high rate of daily recoveries has positioned India as the world’s leading country with the maximum number of recovered cases. This has also pushed the recovery rate to a maximum of more than 80%, ”the Health Ministry tweeted on Tuesday morning.
