With an increase in deaths in recent days, the death rate from the virus has increased slightly from 3.2% on April 30 to 3.4% on Tuesday. Of the 199 deaths, only Bengal accounted for 79, 72 of which were previously named comorbid deaths, followed by 49 in Gujarat and 34 in Maharashtra. Gujarat’s toll was the highest recorded by any state so far in 24 hours.
However, the Bengal government maintained that the 72 victims had comorbidities and died “with the virus but not with the virus.” With 85 new cases on Tuesday, Bengal also posted its highest peak in Covid cases, with a total count that rose to 1,344. However, of the total cases, 235 were not previously reported.
According to the Union health ministry, up to 3,900 new cases and 195 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. However, most of these cases were reported by TOI in the past two days, based on data published by state governments.
The Center said the delay in reporting positive cases and deaths was the main cause of the sudden increase in these two charges in figures released Tuesday. “We are dealing with infectious diseases. Therefore, timely notification of cases and their clinical management is important. In some states, this gap (in reports) has been noted and (these problems) are now being addressed, ”said joint secretary of the health ministry, Lav Agarwal.
In response to a question about Bengal, Agarwal said: “We continued with certain states as we did not receive timely case and death reports from them. We are pursuing them and (the problems) are now being addressed. ”
Significantly, Delhi crossed the 5,000 mark with 206 more people who tested positive for the disease. Tuesday’s figures are a relief as this is the first time after the past three days that Delhi has registered fewer than 300 numbers. Like on Monday, no deaths were reported in Delhi on Tuesday.
Gujarat recorded the maximum number of deaths in a day with 49 victims, bringing the number of state victims to 368. In addition, for the first time the state violated the 400 mark in a single day by registering 441 new patients, bringing the number total cases to 6,245. The situation worsens day by day in Ahmedabad, which reported 349 or 79% of total cases and 39 or 79% of total deaths on Tuesday.
Maharashtra broke the 15,000 mark by reporting 984 new cases, bringing the total number to 15,525.
Of the total cases, almost 900 patients were confirmed before, but were added to the count only on Monday, which is not reflected in the figures reported by TOI. Maharashtra broke the 15,000 mark in just five days after reaching the 10,000 mark. With 34 victims on Tuesday, Maharashtra recorded its third highest death toll in a single day, pushing the cumulative death toll past the 600 mark to reach 617 deaths.
For the second day in a row, the state attributed the big jump in the figures to accounting and said that only 841 of the 984 cases were for a 24-hour period, the second highest addition in a single day, while the rest – 143 – were cases tested during the last week but confirmed by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) only on Monday. The state claimed that its data cleansing process was now complete for all districts except Mumbai.
Mumbai on Tuesday contributed to nearly 75% of the state’s daily bill by adding 635 new cases, the second-largest jump in a single day for the city. Mumbai with 9945 total cases is just a handful of cases far from touching the 10,000 mark.
The other states that reported double-digit deaths on Tuesday were Rajasthan (12) and Madhya Pradesh. Rajasthan reported the highest number of Covid-19 deaths in a single day, totaling 89. Of these, Jaipur only accounts for 50 deaths.
UP registered 118 new cases, bringing the total to 2,880. The state recorded seven more deaths, bringing the number to 56. A total of 185 patients were discharged, the highest number in one day.
Tamil Nadu crossed the 4,000 mark with 508 more patients who tested positive, bringing the total number to 4,058. Chennai represents almost 50% of these cases. The state capital added 279 new patients to his account. Two people, a 56-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman, have died in the past 24 hours, bringing the number of state victims to 33.
Andhra Pradesh reported 67 new positive Covid-19 cases, bringing the number to 1,717, with the Kurnool hotbed becoming the first district in the state to cross the 500 mark.
In Tripura, 12 more BSF jawans and a disaster worker from the 138th Paramilitary Force Battalion located at Ambassa in Dhalai District tested positive on Tuesday. Previously, 25 Jawans from the same battalion and two of their children had been infected.
