Covid-19 cases per million lowest in India, says government

The Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday that India has been recording one of the lowest Covid-19 cases per million among large nations reeling from the coronavirus pandemic. “The average daily rate of positivity last week was 3.72%. Among all the great nations of the world, the cases per million in India are the lowest. The trends of the past seven days show that European nations are witnessing an increase in Covid-19 cases, ”said Health Ministry Secretary Rajesh Bhushan.

Bhushan said that India’s cumulative positivity rate has decreased from 7.15% to 6.69% during the period from November 11 to December 1. “In November 2020, the number of recoveries has been greater than the number of new cases,” Bhushan said.

In November, a total of 12,78,727 cases were reported, a decrease from 18,71,498 in October, which represents approximately 13.51 percent of the total Covid-19 infections reported so far. A total of 88.89,585 people have recovered from the infection so far, bringing the national recovery rate to 93.94%.

The Health Ministry official also confirmed that adverse events are unlikely to affect the delivery time of the Covid-19 vaccine. “Whenever clinical trials begin, subjects are expected to sign a prior informed consent form. This is a global practice; it happens in all countries. The form informs the subject about possible adverse events that may occur should one decide to participate in the trial, ”explained Bhushan.

India recorded 31,118 new cases of the coronavirus disease on Tuesday, bringing the country’s tally to 94.62,809 and the death toll rose to 137,621 after 482 new deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours. India’s Covid-19 count had crossed the 2 million mark on August 7, 3 million on August 23, and 4 million on September 5.
