Eight states witnessed a sharp increase in daily new COVID-19 cases and accounted for 81.42 percent of reported infections in the past 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said.
These eight states are Maharashtra, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Madhya Pradesh.
India’s active COVID-19 case count also increased to 6.58,909 and now accounts for 5.32 percent of total infections. In one day, there has been a net increase of 44,213 active cases.
Ten districts (Pune, Mumbai, Nagpur, Thane, Nashik, Bengaluru Urban, Aurangabad, Delhi, Ahmednagar and Nanded) account for 50% of the total active cases in the country.
Maharashtra has shown a nine-fold jump, the highest increase in the number of active cases in the past two months. In percentage terms, Punjab has reported the highest increase in active cases.
Five states (Maharashtra, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Kerala and Punjab) together account for 77.3% of the total active cases in the country. Maharashtra alone accounts for 59.36% of the country’s total active cases.
India on Saturday recorded 89,129 new cases of COVID-19 in one day, the highest daily increase in about six and a half months, bringing the national infection count to more than 1.23 crore, according to data from the Ministry of Health of the Union on Saturday.
The death toll rose to 1.64,110 with 714 more deaths in one day, also the highest since October 21.
Maharashtra has reported the highest number of new cases daily with 47,913, followed by 4,991 in Karnataka and 4,174 in Chhattisgarh.
Twelve states – Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Karnataka, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Kerala – are showing an upward trajectory in daily new cases, the Health Ministry said.
Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba chaired a high-level review meeting on Friday with chief secretaries, police directors general and health secretaries from all states, with a focus on 11 states and Union territories that have reported a very high increase in daily cases and deaths. due to COVID-19 in the last two weeks.
These states and union territories “of great concern” were advised to take immediate and effective measures to ensure the containment of active cases and daily deaths through improved testing, strict containment, rapid contact tracing and application of appropriate behavior of COVID, and compliance with the standard clinical management protocol previously shared with all states and UT.
India’s cumulative recoveries stand at 1,15,69,241 and there are 44,202 recoveries in one day.
Of the 714 deaths recorded in one day, six states account for 85.85 percent of new deaths. Maharashtra saw a peak of 481 deaths, followed by 57 in Punjab.
Thirteen states and UT have not reported any deaths from COVID-19 in one day. These are Odisha, Assam, Ladakh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Sikkim, Lakshadweep, Mizoram, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Arunachal Pradesh.
In a significant advance in the fight against COVID-19, the cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has passed the mark of Rs 7.3 million.
Altogether, 7,30,54,295 doses of vaccine have been administered through 11,53,614 sessions, according to the interim report until 7 am on Saturday. The cumulative vaccination figure includes more than 6 crore from first doses, while figures from the second dose also approach the 1 crore mark, the ministry said.
